Synthetic mats — PVC, TPE, rubber blends — are made from petrochemicals. They off-gas in heated rooms. They don't biodegrade. And the grip they offer has nothing to do with the practice.
Cotton grip is different. It improves with use and with sweat. After 10–15 sessions, a dual-weave cotton surface becomes more stable than it was new. Studios that switch report practitioners noticing immediately — and commenting unprompted.
